A Norigae is a traditional Korean ornament historically worn with hanbok. More than a decorative accessory, it was believed to bring blessings, protection, prosperity, and longevity. Norigae has been cherished for centuries as both a beautiful adornment and a meaningful symbol of well-being.
What is a Goebul Norigae?
The Goebul Norigae is a traditional Korean textile ornament characterized by its distinctive triangular shape. Historically, it was often made for children and loved ones as a protective charm, carrying wishes for safety, health, and happiness.
Its three-pointed form is traditionally associated with protection from misfortune, while the handmade stitching reflects care, affection, and good intentions from the maker.
About the Workshop
In this workshop, you will create a single-unit (Danjak) Goebul Norigae, a simplified version of the traditional design.
The project has been thoughtfully adapted from traditional techniques, making it more accessible for beginners while preserving the essential beauty and symbolism of the original craft. You will learn basic hand-stitching techniques and leave with your own handmade Korean textile ornament.
